What they Eat in China

So I didn't have time to write up an official DB tonight, but when I was reading the section in Woman Warrior about all the crazy food they eat in China, it reminded of my travels to Guangzhou.  So I decided to post some pictures of some of the food I saw/ate when I was in China.

"There was a tender plant with flowers like white stars hiding under the leaves, which were like the flower petals but green  It had not taste." (90)  We also ate these flowers, and I can vouch they had no taste at all.

Here I'm about to devour a nice crispy snake tidbit....yum!

Crocodile, super fresh.

Snake, even fresher!

But which snake is the freshest?

Stomach was perhaps the grossest thing I ate, never again!

You wouldn't think there was a lot to eat from a duck's foot, but the Chinese find a way.

Ah tongue tasting tongue... I didn't actually eat this one

Even insects are not off the menu, this was in a restaurant

No an aquarium, but a restaurant

Bird eggs are for squares, Wasp larvae is where it is at

Lung- it nearly took my breath away

The French eat the fleshy part of the duck, but the Chinese eat the dried out heads and beaks

Squid

Diversity?

"That night two frogs the size of year-old babies appeared in his room.  He clubbed them to death, cooked them, and ate them with white wine."  (90)

"He shot and cooked rabbits and birds, but he could also eat scorpions, snakes, cockroaches, worms, slugs, beetles, and crickets." (89)

Turtle Turtle

Eel was actually one of my favorites.
